8月21日，10幢3D打印建筑在上海張江高新青浦園區內正式交付使用，作為當地動遷工程的辦公用房。這些“打印”出來的建筑墻體是用建筑垃圾制成的特殊“油墨”，按照電腦設計的圖紙和方案，經一臺大型的3D打印機層層疊加噴繪而成，10幢小屋的建筑過程僅花費24小時。
房子不大，最高不過兩層，面積也就十來個平方，特殊之處在上上下下看不到一片磚瓦，墻體呈現出年輪蛋糕的結構，由一層層水泥材料堆疊而成，每層大約2厘米高。與眾不同的墻體，其實是用一種特殊的“油墨”，根據電腦設計圖紙和方案，在現場層層疊加“噴繪”而成。
至于打印過程中的玄機，這項技術的發明者稱，這是他們眼下的最高機密。整個打印過程，只需要一張圖紙、一臺電腦、就地取材制造的足夠“油墨”，就可以在24小時內打印出10幢200平方米建筑。
據發明者介紹，這臺高6.6米、寬10米、長32米的打印機，底面占地面積足有一個籃球場那么大，高度足有三層樓高。且打印機長度還可以延伸，完全拉開足有150米長。打印機在蘇州工廠組裝而成。這次現身青浦的3D打印房屋，就是在蘇州打印好后搬運到上海的。
發明者介紹，“油墨”是一種經過特殊玻璃纖維強化處理的混凝土材料，其強度和使用年限大大高于鋼筋混凝土。“空心墻體不但大大減輕了建筑本身重量，還可以隨意填充保溫材料，并可任意設計墻體結構，一次性解決墻體的承重結構問題，因此無論是橋梁、簡易工房、劇院，還是賓館和居民住宅，其建筑體的強度和牢度都符合且高于國家建筑行業標準。”
